Program areas at Alzheimer's Association - Alzheimer's Assoc St Louis Chapter
Education and outreach: we believe in enhancing quality of life for the growing number of people with dementia by teaching all who may touch their lives. Our education and outreach departments provide family, community and professional education programs throughout our 38-county services area. In fy 16, a total of 7,685 people attended one of the 218 educational programs offered by the St. Louis Chapter. The care & conquer conference continued in fy 16 to specifically reach and educate family caregivers and individuals with early memory loss. The conference was attended by 680 people. The new early stage social engagement programs had 375 participants.
Public policy advocacy emphasizes grassroots initiatives in an effort to influence decision makers in Missouri, Illinois, and Washington, d.c. our goal is to advance research funding and increase access to quality care and services. In fy 16, activities focused on the continued implementation of the Missouri and Illinois Alzheimer's state plans, funding for Alzheimer's service grants, state and federal funding for Alzheimer's research and support for the development of a national Alzheimer's plan.
Family services: family services include care consultations and early stage programming. We serve as a source of support, information and guidance for individuals living with the Disease and their families. We provide 24/7 helpline, care consultations, support groups, specialized programs for people with early memory loss, safety services, respite assistance, and online resources. In fy 16, we had 8,504 helpline contacts, provided care consultations to 1,541 persons, had a total attendance of 3,509 at support groups, provided respite care assistance to 282 families, registered 80 people in the medic alert(r) + Alzheimer's Association safe return(r) program, and received 410,303 website visits.
