Program areas at Girls on the Run Georgia

As an independent council of Girls on the Run International, Girls on the Run Georgia is proud to be part of the only national, physical activity-based positive youth development program with an evidence-based curriculum, trained coaches, and a commitment to serving girls and gender expansive youth. Our programs are delivered in elementary and middle schools and community sites throughout Greater Atlanta, Athens and North Georgia. For the 2022-2023 school year, we ambitiously set a program registration goal that reflected pre-pandemic program registration numbers. Although we did not reach our goal, this past school year, 2,658 children participated in our programs on 182 teams. It has been our long-standing priority to mirror our participants with the demographics of the communities we serve and we are proud that we are succeeding. 73% of our participants were BIPOC, 60% of their families have an annual household income of less than $75,000, 30% of whom earn less than $25,000 annually. Thanks to our supporters, in addition to our life-changing program experience, 1,018 girls received a new pair of running shoes and 165 received sports bras, so they could fully participate in our programs. We also provided 100 teams (1,500 participants) with healthy snacks at each lesson and 25 teams with transportation to our season-culminating 5K event. We are also extremely proud of the feedback shared by our volunteer coaches who engage with our program participants firsthand. One coach shared, "Girls on the Run is a great way to have an impact in the lives of young girls who need to have a sense of community and a safe space to talk about their feelings."
