Program areas at Partnership for the Delaware Estuary
Monitored and maintained 11 living shoreline installations in NJ, PA and DE, including sites at Money Island, NJ, Mispillion Harbor, DE, and Bartram's Garden on the Schuylkill River in PA. Freshwater mussel research continued in 2022, including exploring the use of these animals to improve water quality in stormwater ponds and lakes. Planning continued for the new freshwater mussel hatchery, which will be constructed on the grounds of Bartram's Garden in Philadelphia, PA. The architectural design firm that was hired began working, and it's anticipated that construction will begin in late 2024.In the areas of education and outreach, PDE has returned to regular operations post COVID pandemic. In 2022, PDE received BIL funding from the United States Environmental Protection Agency and this resulted in the expansion of programs and subawards to partners. That funding will span a 5-year period oftime.
