Spca Florida's community programs help thousand of pets and the people who love them. The organization cares for around 3,700 homeless animals each year and provided affordable veterinary care to an additional 15,000 pets annually through its mcclurg animal medical center. During 2022, the organization's ani-meals program, a collaboration with meals on wheels, polk county elderly services and viste, distributed more than 132,000 pounds of pet food to elderly and homebound families. The community cat program addressed pet overpopulation by spaying or neutering 477 stray cats, preventing thousands of future homeless kittens from being born. Our medical center cared for 13,500 patients through out the year, performed 1,224 special surgeries and spayed or neutered 1,801 cats and 1,705 dogs. Under the foster program, 2,148 puppies and kittens were fostered until the animals were ready for adoption. Nearly 400 "at risk" animals were transported to approved humane organizations for adoption in 2022.
