Program areas at World Education

Bantwana/ovc programs:the bantwana initiative of World Education works with vulnerable children, adolescents and their families who are affected by poverty, hiv, and gender-based violence. Bantwana delivers critical wrap around services to ensure access to Education; social and child protection; economic strengthening; and health, hiv/aids and post-abuse services. Bantwana programming works closely with individuals, families, communities, and governments to respond to these critical needs, while addressing the structural drivers of hiv to increase resilience and decrease the risk of hiv infection. We work in high hiv-burden countries in east and southern africa, including: eswatini, malawi, mozambique, uganda, tanzania and zimbabwe.
Asia programs:world Education's asia division currently operates in myanmar, laos, nepal and cambodia and focuses on four thematic areas, basic Education, strengthening systems and support for persons with disabilities, migration/anti-trafficking and child labor elimination, and youth development. In basic Education, we emphasize early grade reading and early grade math, inclusive Education (for children with disabilities and minority language speakers), technology in Education, and nonformal Education. Our current signature project in the disabilities arena enhances the independence and functional ability of persons with disabilities in laos through equal access to health and social services. We currently support capacity building of local ngos that are working to eliminate child labor in nepal.
Africa programs: World Education inc.'s africa division supports a variety of Education programming in uganda, ghana, mozambique, cote d'ivoire, benin, and mali. These programs involve both formal Education and non-formal Education support and serve both adults and children as well as the ministries that oversee their well-being and Education provision. Africa division's formal Education support includes teacher training in early grade reading and math, early childhood Education, bilingual literacy, and community mobilization through capacity building of parent teacher associations/school management committees. The non-formal Education work usually involves the provision of functional literacy to out of school children or illiterate adults so that they can either access formal Education opportunities or better income generation opportunities. The cornerstone of much of our work is our sensitivity to and purposeful integration of gender issues, specifically around women's empowerment and girl's access to Education.
Domestic programs:world Education's u.s. division advances the economic mobility of vulnerable people and communities through Education. The u.s. division improves the quality, efficiency, and availability of Education for adults with low skills in educational settings, workplaces, libraries, and more. It is one of the leading providers of progessional development and technical assistance for adult Education, and operates four centers of expertise and the ma adult literacy hotline. It develops, documents, and disseminates innovations and promising practices in adult Education, and responds to pressing needs, such as the need for foundational digital skills.
