Program areas at Assistance League of Tulsa
Operation school bell (osb)provides new school clothing and other essential items to Tulsa area students in grades pre-k-12. On-site served 1,617 tps elementary students by providing clothing and related items. The offsite program served 1,599 elementary students from 12 outlying school districts at area walmart stores. Tps elementary students received 2 uniform shirts and 29,680 shirts were delivered to 35 elementary schools. Clothes closets met the immediate needs of students in 14 secondary schools and served 6,952 students. Hi and dry kindy kits were sent directly to 41 elementary school sites so items were on hand to serve students as the needs arose. The Assistance League Tulsa scholar awards is an education program paying $39,963 in course fees for 226 tps students concurrently enrolled in high school and college coursework.
Assistance League of Tulsa partners with fostering connections providing car seats and clothing for children who are awaiting placement in foster care. The Assistance League of Tulsa partners with emergency infant services to provide portable baby beds and clothing to families with children.
Assistance League of Tulsa received funds from the emma r. showman trust to endow the betty bradstreet Assistance fund in 2002. The endowment committee has determined that the interest and dividends generated from the principal would be awarded each year to local school districts and organizations in support of the arts. Awards totaling $90,341 were given to 58 area teachers from 10 school districts to enrich fine arts in our schools.
Through its community action outreach, Assistance League of Tulsa participated in the annual martin luther king, jr. Parade giving away gloves to those attending the parade. Members supported literacy programs by providing books to gaining ground and its book van and crime prevention network's book nooks.
Adult programs maintains a partnership with life senior services. Programs and activities are coordinated to enhance the lives of their clients by providing holiday gifts, household supply baskets and art supplies for underserved senior citizens.
Assistance League of Tulsa maintains a partnership with mental health association of Oklahoma and assisted the agency with clothing, bedding, household supplies and furniture.
The Assistance League of Tulsa continued its partnerships with two agencies in the greater Tulsa metro area: Tulsa day center and Tulsa regional stem alliance. In each partnership the chapter coordinated with the agencies to determine the needs and ways the Assistance League of Tulsa could assist the agency. Clothing, supplies, education materials and capital expenditures were provided to the partner agencies.
