Program areas at Bailey House

The supportive housing program provided permanent housing to low-income, formerly homeless individuals and families living with hiv/aids in manhattan, brooklyn, queens and the bronx through scatter site apartments and two congregate residences. The program also helps ensure that residents are connected to healthcare and that they receive counseling and workshops focused on health education housing-related skills development. Among our programs include project first, which places formerly incarcerated people living with hiv/aids in permanent housing and assists with housing placement services. The recidivism rate of clients in the program is far below the national average. Our stars program provides housing for formerly homeless and lgbt young adults living with hiv/aids, 100% of whom become connected to healthcare and benefits to improve their health outcomes and socio-economic status.
The behavioral health and community services program provided services to low-income people, all of whom live with either hiv/aids or other chronic illnesses. Services are designed to eliminate barriers to care and increase access to quality medical care via medical case management and patient navigation. Over the course of the year, Bailey House offered peer-based support groups focusing on health education, recovery, and risk reduction. The health and wellness program consists of a food pantry, providing food assistance via grocery bags for clients and the greater surrounding community, as well as nutrition education through food and meal preparation demonstrations, nutrition workshops and printed materials. Last year, the food pantry provided lots of meals to support the community. Our east harlem neighborhood records the highest rate of psychiatric hospitalizations and the second highest rate of suicide. The clinic operates under a harm reduction philosophy, and the "show rate" for patients is higher than many clinics, an extraordinary accomplishment given the target population typically being difficult to engage in behavioral health care.
