Program areas at NFTC
The Council provides its members with comprehensive services, including participation in various committees and working groups focused on international Trade, tax policies, supply chain management, and National security matters. These committees play a pivotal role in formulating positions on crucial Trade, tax, investment, and economic issues and coordinating advocacy efforts on behalf of the Council. Furthermore, the Council offers valuable information services to its members through email notifications and Trade and tax matters publications. Email updates keep senior management of member companies abreast of significant developments impacting u.s. international business, Council stances on critical legislative matters, and forthcoming events of particular significance. Moreover, longer briefs and public comments provided by Council committee members and staff reflect their expertise in the field. Trade and tax matters is a weekly compilation of nftc activities and events featuring summaries of pertinent news stories from leading publications. Thus, it provides members comprehensive insights into ongoing developments and the Council's engagements.
The Council's committees convene periodically for varying durations, often including sessions over breakfast and lunch, to fulfill their responsibilities. Certain committees operate in a hybrid capacity due to the dispersed nature of participants across the united states and around the globe.
Nftc led a unique coalition on National security and competitiveness issues. Building on nftc's history of leadership on export controls and sanctions issues, its alliance will help lead business community engagement on National security and competitiveness and serve as a partner to the government to inform policymaking. Throughout the fiscal year, the Council maintained its leadership role in addressing various international tax policy issues. These efforts encompassed engagement with international organizations to influence global tax policy discussions, collaboration with the administration and congress to shape u.s. tax legislation and regulations pertaining to international investment and Trade, and ongoing leadership in negotiating bilateral tax treaties. The Council continued to lead engagement through its special project on the world Trade organization and the organization for economic cooperation and development to facilitate successful multilateral Trade negotiations and policy initiatives. All these initiatives have provided invaluable information and support to many of our member companies with international operations. Moreover, the Council intensified its efforts in global supply chain policies to enhance transparency and predictability in import requirements. Balancing the roles of government enforcement and private sector involvement through partnership and risk management principles, these efforts aim to promote compliance with u.s. Trade laws and bolster supply chain resilience, ultimately facilitating the efficient provision of products and services.
