Program areas at Sagamore Institute

Education - the educational opportunities program serves the j1 visa program, which issues visas and monitors highly-qualified international teachers who come to the usa to teach. It also operates scholarships for education choice, an Indiana scholarship granting organization which grants scholarships so that students can attend the school of their choice. To raise the funds necessary to award the scholarships, the organization is able to offer individual and business donors a state tax credit equal to fifty percent (50%) of the amount donated. Since the program's beginning at the organization, the academic years of operations july 2011 - june 2023, "scholarships for education choice" awarded approximately $65 million to over 23,000 students. The administrative fee income vs. Scholarship income percentage has been 5.9% historically. The organization meets the statutory requirements as stated in ic 20-51-3-3 sec 3(3) and does not use more than ten percent of the total amount of scholarship contributions for administrative costs.
Criminal justice reform - the organization's criminal justice reform portfolio aims to help rescue and restore those hurt by crime and those whose criminal behavior hurts themselves and society. The organization is advancing new ideas for criminal justice policy reform and ground-breaking innovations. A key initiative is one heart, a national collaborative initiative that provides mentors, education and training programs, and ancillary elements to incarcerated and probated youth, to equip them with the necessary tools and life skills.
Community development - the organization's citizenship portfolio engages citizens, scholars, and politicians to develop communities where all people can thrive. Many of the initiatives have a focus on capacity-building for community-based organizations.
Policy reform - the organization is host to several policy reform programs which focus on state program innovations that favor healthy families, work, economic sustainability, budget responsibility, etc. There is also a concentration on policy reform regarding education choice.
Minority entreprenurship - the minority entrepreneurship program at the organization partners with the minority entreprenurship Institute, innopwer, cohatch, and other, to help close the wealth gap in america by accelerating high-growth entrepreneurship, small business support, and impact investing.
Purposeful design - purposeful design sells furniture crafted by program participants and any profits are re-invested into the program to help rebuild lives of individuals broken by addiction or homelessness, equip them with valuable work and life skills, and provide them a job building furniture. Purposeful design is a wholly owned subsidiary of the organization.
International development - the organization has scholar-practitioners that seek to deliver wise counsel to a world in progress. Specifically in liberia, israel, india, and rwanda are various initiatives that work toward encouraging community prosperity and flourishing.
