See schedule o.swedish cancer institute (sci):in 2022, we continued to develop a culture of philanthropy for Swedish cancer institute internal partners, grateful patients, and community members overall and increased the awareness about the importance and impact of philanthropy. We increased the numbers of internal Swedish cancer institute physician and caregiver partners who are making grateful patient referrals, awareness about sci's research and its direct impact on patient care and substantially increased the amount of funds for philanthropic priorities. The generosity of donors allowed provided support to the following areas of research, education, programs and supportive care, specifically, the paul g. allen research Center at sci, endowed kaplan legacy fund, hematologic malignancies program, gynecologic oncology, breast cancer research, and the expansion of the melanoma program; in addition to education, patient assistance and supportive care services. In 2022, multiple clinical trials and research projects were made possible by philanthropy in the areas of molecular and genomic evaluation of cancer, cancer prevention and early detection, and immuno-oncology. Swedish neuroscience institute (sni):philanthropy provided funding for immunotherapy research, high-throughput screening clinical trial, care navigation and innovative research fund for brain tumor patients, in addition to clinical trials, care navigation; the ms Center endowment; assisted in the clinical ftes for the neurologic/movement disorder division; supported patient experience and care for the Center for healthy aging; supported multidisciplinary services such as rehab, social work, pain management, pt, and cardiac care, supported technology advances such as hololens for stroke and neurosurgical needs. In addition, philanthropy supported the funding for a stroke nurse navigator to serve as the bridge between in-patient stroke patients and their outpatient needs once discharged. Donations supported the women's brain health clinic offering advance education, primary dementia prevention and gender-based research within our multidisciplinary women's wellness Center to improve the health and well-being of women in midlife and reduce their subsequent dementia risk. Swedish heart and vascular institute (shvi):philanthropy to the Swedish heart and vascular institute supported our heart and vascular population health and aortic programs and establishing a dedicated women's heart health program. Philanthropy was critical in the usage of an experimental device that is able to identify early signs of vasopelegia, a common complication of bypass surgery. In addition, the donor-funded Swedish comprehensive atrial fibrillation network continues to improve access for patients with afib and offer a more holistic approach to providing the appropriate evaluations, treatments and management and will be a source of important patient data.swedish behavioral health:philanthropy has continued to support a behavioral health program placing one postdoctoral psychology fellow in each of our clinics, where they can provide many of these patients the care they need and at no cost through same-day behavioral health interventions. Since the start of this program, we have completed 3,207 visits. In addition, donations allowed for the hire of the first two physicians at the end of their fellowship.swedish women & children's program:with the help of philanthropy, we were able to expand our doula program in 2022 to include birth doulas to provide a calming space in the hospital environment, bereavement doulas to assist with planning for the birth and processing of their grief, and ongoing emotional support, and postpartum doulas, who assist in feeding, soothing and sleeping and lending parents a hand in the first few weeks after birth during daytime visits or overnight stays. Through philanthropy, we expanded women's wellness and specialty gyn services program and drove women's wellness webinars to reach a larger community audience. In addition, health inequities was a significant focus that was addressed with philanthropic support around diversity in our doula program. We saw support to expand women's and children's research, an on-call doula services and a telehealth doula program. The lytle Center for pregnancy and newborns at Swedish and the Swedish neonatal intensive care unit had philanthropic funds directed to expand and enhance their services, as well as donors supporting general women's wellness and gyn specialty services. Swedish digestive health institute:in 2022, ibd research, the pediatric metabolic health program, colorectal and thoracic surgical fellowships and the gi apc fellowship were focal points for philanthropic giving. In addition, donations supported a new intestinal ultrasound machine (ius) for the department, allowing for the screening technology on site in the examination room and improving access by allowing patients to get screened during their clinic visit. Physicians are able to complete the ultrasound in the exam room without the patient having to schedule additional appointments at another clinic for a ct scan. This preserves clinic time by removing burdensome insurance pre-authorization for colonoscopies and ct scans which in turn allows the clinic to reinvest that time in patient care.nursing:in 2022, philanthropy helped to combat nursing burnout, a complex combination of emotional exhaustion, detachment and decline in personal fulfillment. Donations have helped us assemble workshops designed to help nurses process and deal with that trauma. Nurses learn the science behind trauma along with strategies for post-traumatic growth and healing. In addition, as a direct result of donor giving, our nurses had the opportunity to attend two-day wellness and self-care retreats at harmony hill, this on-site workshop that increased annual attendance by 560%. Philanthropy also helped to solve the problem of nursing recruitment and retention and provided a nurse admin fellowship to train the next generation of nursing leaders with a comprehensive one-year fellowship. Health equity, diversity and inclusion:donations designated to the providence Swedish office of health equity, diversity and inclusion (ohedi) program helps close the gap in longstanding health inequities by building a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects our patient population. In january 2022, we welcomed our first cohort of residents from meharry Medical college, one of the nation's oldest and largest historically black academic health science centers. The meharry providence Swedish partnership, supported by philanthropy, will help us attract and eventually recruit a more diverse workforce. During their time with us, Medical students move through general surgery rotations and receive financial assistance for transportation, housing and living expenses. To date, we have welcomed 15 future physicians into our program. With the initial success of this collaboration, we are looking to replicate this model to attract more providers of color to specialties like family medicine and obstetrics and gynecology.in 2022 our cultural navigation program worked to close gaps in health outcomes by addressing social determinants of health and improving access to equitable healthcare for our most vulnerable community members. Equipped with data and understanding, the team serves as a bridge to communities who have lost trust in health care. Our navigators facilitated access to services while improving the quality and cultural competence of care delivery. In 2022, our team of three navigators connected more than 107,600 individuals to necessary health services. They held 6 screening events in underserved communities to expand access to mammograms, pap smears and preventative screenings. Our navigators also became certified with wa healthplanfinder to enroll patients with insurance and partnered with 320 local organizations to create connections in the community.fund for excellence:philanthropic gifts designated to the fund for excellence supported Swedish's top priorities and greatest needs, such as providence Swedish staffing, transfer, & operations Center, providing caregivers more technological insights and tools to provide leading care. This systems-level strength helps nurses continue caring for our community on the frontlines and at the bedside daily. This program allows our nurses capacity to focus on caring for each patient as an individual, on top of creating opportunities for continual learning, career fulfillment and long-term wellness.
