Program areas at United Dairy Industry of Michigan
Promoted Dairy products by working with partners to raise awareness of milk's nutritional benefits for michiganders in need. The organization also partnered with food banks and retailers to educate consumers on the need for milk in the food banking system and to increase their capacity for milk distribution. During 2022, milk drives were held at 25 stores which resulted in matching 15,500 gallons of milk to approximately 120,000 consumers. In addition, there were exhibits at health professional and school conferences, providing nutritional information to the general public. Dairy Council of Michigan hosted virtual farm tours to educate consumers on where their Dairy products come from. The 5 tours reached 944 classrooms. The organization provided nature's sports drink grants to 309 high school sports teams to help them learn about performance nutrition and the benefits of chocolate milk as a refuel beverage. Directly reached 12,824 athletes with potential impact on >233,000 students in the high schools receiving grants. The adopt a cow program reached 1045 classrooms for a total of 21,000+ students. Teachers are provided digital lesson plans for students to learn about how Dairy farmers care for their animals and do live monthly checkins with their adopted calf. Dairy Council partnered with afc ann arbor, food banks and schools to promote summer feeding to kids. Students learned soccer skills, enjoyed a nutritious meal and were provided nutrition education resources. Reach-southeast mi families.
