Program areas at Animal Protective Association of Missouri
Adoption - the Association takes in companion animals that have strayed, been abandoned, or whose owners can no longer care for them and makes every effort to provide a second chance for all adoptable animals to find loving and permanent homes. The Association also helps overcrowded shelters and rescue groups find homes for their animals by transferring them into the Association's adoption center. At the Association's brentwood location, 3,969 animals were adopted this year with another 245 lost animals reunited with their families. At the st. louis county olivette location, 2,411 animals were adopted this year with another 1,156 lost animals reunited with their families.
Veterinary clinic - the Association's clinic provides routine well care for clients' cats and dogs, as well as provides veterinary care for the animals in the adoption center. 4,482 animals were served this year.
Education - the Association actively works to educate the public on Animal welfare issues and the benefits of the human/animal bond with programs reaching schools, organizations, and children. Approximately 3,046 individuals and children were reached by these programs. Partnering with facilities, 159 hours were completed through our petreach program which connects pets with seniors in our community. The Association also provides outreach programs to benefit the community. The domestic violence pet assistance program (safecare) assists victims of domestic abuse by fostering their pets while they regain their independence outside of a violent home. Safecare assisted 47 animals and of those, 36 were returned to their owners. Crisis housing assisted 50 animals animals at the Association's brentwood location, and of those, 35 were returned to their owners. Crising housing also assisted 5 animals at the st. louis county's olivette location, and all of those pets were returned to their owners.
