Program areas at Athens Area Humane Society of Clarke County and SPCA
Clinic Programs: Spay and neuter services, wellness examinations and prevention, and trap-spay/neuter-return (TNR) programs. In FY22, AAHS performed 6,007 spay/neuter procedures for volume and public clients and performed Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) services for 909 cat patients.
Human-Animal Support Services: Emergency 90-day pet housing for pets whose owners are escaping domestic violence, trafficking, and/or abrupt homelessness; supplemental pet food distribution; retention programs and medical assistance. In FY21, AAHS assisted 25 pets (18 dogs and 7 cats) in need of emergency housing and medical care in the wake of domestic violence, trafficking, and homelessness. AAHS distributed 8,058 pounds of pet food to families experiencing food insecurity and homelessness due to natural disasters.
Shelter Programs: Pet adoption, foster care, and pet enrichment and training services. In FY21, AAHS adopted 1,008 pets 645 cats and 400 dogs. Foster caregivers provided in-home pre-adoption housing for 602 pets; foster caregivers donated 32,620 hours of volunteer service to the animals in their care.
