Program areas at Atmore Area YMCA
Health and well being for all: the Ymca views health holistically: a healthy person has unity of body, mind, and spirit. The Ymca has identified the growing national obesity rates in this country as a critical social issue that must be addressed and our health and well being programs are designed to help people develop new skills and grow in body, mind, and spirit by setting realistic goals for self improvement and disease prevention through an active lifestyle, proper nutrition, stress management, and health education. The Atmore Area Ymca has been the community leader in community-based health and fitness since 1995. We offer exercise classes for people of all capabilities including those with disabilities or recovering from illness or surgery. Ymca programs promote interaction, teamwork, development of moral and ethical behavior, social skills, and self esteem, and are affordable and accessible to all. We serve all ages, abilities, races, nationalities, and religions, and provide financial assistance to those who need it.
Child care: our summer day camp programs offer high quality care child care activities for school age children from all segments of our community in a safe and nurturing environment where youth can develop self-esteem, good values, and an appreciation of charitable service. Full day summer camp is safe, secure, and fun.
Youth development: Ymca programs are tools for building the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. We develop, conduct, and support programs which foster responsible citizenship, healthy lifestyles, concern for others, and respect for individual differences. The Atmore Area Ymca provides opportunities for children ages 3 through 15 to develop their fullest potential through interaction with their peers and adult mentors in a non-competitive environment. Our youth sports programs are open to all, regardless of income, so that children appreciate diversity, become community leaders, and develop lifelong values. Hundreds of children from the community participate in youth basketball, tee ball, soccer, and tae kwon do programs.
