Program areas at Blandin Foundation

Charles K. Blandin Foundation is a rural-based, rural-focused private u.s. Foundation. We support rural communities throughout Minnesota, empowering them to promote diversity and embrace sustainability and equity. We center equity of place, race and class in our work and in our grantmaking to nonprofits, government, educational institutions and native governments.community leadership development: this nationally recognized program built competencies in three major areas: (1) framing opportunities and challenges that lead to effective action; (2) building social capital for collaboration and resource sharing; and (3) mobilizing a critical mass of resources to achieve specific outcomes. The program went through an extensive evaluation in 2021 and 2022 to understand how rural leaders may be best supported in the future.
Public policy and engagement: part of strengthening rural Minnesota is helping assure rural perspectives are well represented in public discourse. The Foundation convened and participated in public policy conversations on issues most important to the health of rural Minnesota communities. The Foundation began to wind down its broadband and student success focus areas in 2022.
