Program areas at Carolina Meadows
Carolina Meadows provides housing, health and wellness services, and social opportunities, for senior adults in a financially secure retirement community through a person-centered approach that respects individual dignity, encourages independence, and promotes lifelong learning throughout the sequences of aging. Carolina Meadows provided 239,030 resident days of housing and services for residents living within the independent living component of the campus. In assisted living, including memory care, the organization provided 26,200 resident days of housing and services. In skilled nursing, the organization provided 25,321 patient days of housing and services. (continued on schedule o)a total of 32,703 days of continuing care without lodging contractual services were provided to an average of 90 residents living off-campus who receive the same access to amenities and health care services offered to residents living on-campus. Geriatric physician care, nurse practitioner and specialty physician care programs such as audiology, podiatry, dermatology and dental services are provided to residents for all care levels. The campus primary care medical practice also sees residents both in person and via telehealth visits for all levels of provided care.fitness center:the fitness center, pool , meditation labyrinth, nine-hole golf course, tennis, pickleball, croquet and bocce court amenities were available throughout 2022. We offered on average 20 classes both in person and through zoom in our independent living setting. The classes offered included aerobics, stretch, strength, yoga, balance, meditation, aquatic, and others. Special offerings were held throughout the year including campus group walks, walking challenges, meditation events, lectures and individual equipment orientations at no cost. Personalized training sessions in independent, assisted and skilled settings with a monthly average of 48 clients. We offer golf fitness services including screening, and lessons. Three of our team members are trained in parkinson's wellness recovery and series training is offered regularly. We also offer health coaching services. Two weekly classes are offered for employees and walking challenges. Four employees are designated for the wellness program for all levels of care and additional services are provided under contract including specialty class offerings (including yoga, tai chi, and pilates) and nutrition. We have three contracted massage therapists to provide in-home services to residents in all levels of care. During the spring semester we provided an internship opportunity for a unc exercise and sport science student.wellness services:the wellness department performs annual functional fitness assessments on independent living residents that are patients of our primary medical practice at the time of their annual wellness exam. This averages seven participants per month. Virtue balance gait screenings are offered at no cost in both our assisted and independent settings and ultimately tested over 500 residents through year end. We host quarterly events and one on one opportunities for screenings. We offered two matter of balance series and sarcopenia preventions programs developed on evidence-based research. Physical, occupational and speech therapy services are available on our campus under contract with powerback rehabilitation. We hosted three campus blood drives for the blood connection and the chatham county senior games croquet, table tennis and men's bocce events.activities/life enrichment:both staff and residents are able to arrange activities. Offerings are designed to meet the full range of needs and interests as follows: social, intellectual, spiritual, physical and emotional. Independent living has a wide range of programs coordinated by staff and residents. The most popular activities include music at the Meadows, Carolina Meadows university, and world affairs. Attendance for these programs range upwards from 75 residents, with special events often drawing over 200 participants. In the fairways (assisted living) qualified staff design an activities calendar with resident input for group and individual opportunities. Residents are encouraged to continue interests and hobbies developed over a lifetime. Qualified staff provide a range of activities in the green (memory support environment within the fairways) designed to meet the psychosocial needs of the residents and to facilitate engagement. Two separate programs are provided in the pines (skilled nursing) as follows: approximately ten to fifteen residents with moderate to severe memory impairment are served daily in a specific program for this population, while five to ten residents participate daily in the program designed for those whose cognition is relatively intact. Volunteers supplement staff members to enhance programming and quality of life. There is a music & memory program utilizing individualized music to serve both skilled nursing and memory care residents.dining services: dining services provides resident meals daily for all our levels of living. For residents, approximately 6,552 meals per month are served in the pines, 6,768 in the fairways, and 9,289 in the independent living dining venues. An additional total of 570 monthly guest meals and 1,815 monthly employee meals are served across campus.physical plant:the physical plant annually turns over an average of 40 existing independent living units for new residents. Each existing unit is refurbished to new or like-new condition for incoming residents. In addition, the physical plant completed 16,360 work orders for independent living residents, 1,902 for skilled nursing residents, and 2,086 for assisted living residents. In addition, 3,879 community-wide work orders were completed inclusive of special projects, security responses and trash pickup for a total of 24,227 work orders. Environmental services:the environmental services department, in addition to cleaning all common areas and providing daily service to all skilled nursing and assisted living residents, provides service to approximately 225 independent living residents per month. Approximately 65 pounds of linen are washed, dried and ironed daily for the club center dining rooms, in addition to linens provided in the health center and assisted living.
