Program areas at Center for Arts-Inspired Learning
School programs and community outreach:annually, cal reaches more than 95,100 pre-k to grade 12 youth in ne Ohio through 7,112 programs in more than 127 sites, increasing academic achievement in the core subjects of math, literacy, science, and social studies through the integration of the arts into these subjects, while also increasing knowledge of the arts. By connecting professional teaching artists in music, dance, theater, literacy arts, digital arts and visual arts with schools and community organizations, cal ensures that today's young people are prepared to succeed in the 21st centrury. Cal also prepares professional artists to teach in schools, out of school time programs, and community venues. Artists learn arts integration, lesson planning, child development, classroom management, and other skills that enable them to assist in teaching the core curricula and social and emotional skills to raise student achievement and success.
Artworks: founded in 2005, artworks is a year-round arts-based college and career-readiness program for ne Ohio high school students. 75% - 80% of artworks teens live in the city of cleveland in communities that are underserved, with 80% african american, hispanic, or asian. Each year more than 140 teens participate in artworks Learning skills in the arts in an apprenticeship format while gaining knowledge of financial literacy, college application process, financial aid, networking skills, and teamwork. 92% report graduating on time from high school and going on for further education in college, the military, etc. Since 2005, more than 2,500 teens have successfully completed artworks.
