Program areas at Citydance Ensemble

With a student body of 52 students, the viva school delivers an integrated artistic and educational curriculum that pairs intense dance study and dance wellness education with academic programming, leadership development and college mentorship. All accepted students in grades 1-12 participate in the full integrated curriculum, with our most advanced students training for up to 25 hours a week. To date, 100 of viva graduates have achieved on-time high school graduation and college acceptance, including entrance into some of the nations most esteemed collegiate dance programs. The pre-professional training program, for students ages 8 to 18, conducts programming 33 weeks during the school year and 6 weeks during the summer. The dance training curriculum encompasses contemporary, modern, ballet, pointe, hip hop and traditional african diasporic dance forms, bolstered by dance wellness education, an english language arts curriculum, and robust college mentorship program.
The Citydance school conservatory offers introductory classes through pre-professional and professional training levels at its four studio locations across montgomery county, md, and Washington, dc. Since its founding in 2007, the award-winning conservatory has garnered national and international acclaim, with Citydance alumni now dancing professionally across the globe. Citydance presents brings professional artists, local and global, to theaters across the national capital region and supports the careers of talented local choreographers by providing free rehearsal space and pro bono production, marketing, and business services.
