Columbus Symphony Orchestra seeks to provide high-quality symphonic music and educational programs that generate passion and excitement among diverse audiences. Their mission is to educate and entertain, with an emphasis on removing barriers to music education through classroom programs, youth orchestra ensembles, and other programs for young musicians. In 2021-22, the orchestra presented 13 masterworks series concerts (28 performances) and three special pops concerts (5 performances), including a shared in-person/TV broadcast of holiday pops and a Valentine's weekend concert.

Program areas at Columbus Symphony Orchestra

2021-22 indoor concerts included the masterworks series, with 13 programs (28 performances), and a series of special pops concerts (3 programs/5 performances), which included holiday pops (shared in-person and via tv broadcast), a valentine's weekend concert, and star wars: the empire strikes back live in concert, featuring the Orchestra performing the score to the film. Total attendance for concerts in these series was 28,645, plus an estimated 170,000 who viewed tv broadcasts of our holiday pops concert.
Programs focus on removing barriers and providing access to educational music experiences through classroom programs (young people's concerts, concerts in schools, mindful music moments, and more); six youth Orchestra ensembles and programs for young musicians, including the tuition-free Columbus all city Orchestra for Columbus city schools student musicians in grades 9-12; family programs; educational websites for children and teens (cso kids korner and symphonic teens); opportunities for lifelong learners; and recognition and professional development opportunities for teachers. Cso education programs served over 66,000 children, through a combination of virtual and in-person programming.
The 2022 picnic with the pops and popcorn pops outdoor concert series in the Columbus commons included nine (9) concert programs (10 performances), which were attended by 19,085 individuals. Eight (8) summer night music neighborhood concerts were performed in churches and other community venues throughout central Ohio, with total attendance of 849.
