Description
Community Chest serves as a catalyst for change and a center for resources to empower people to help themselves and others. The Community Chest Child Development Center offers a safe, affordable, and high-quality program for children K-12, nurturing both social and academic skills. Through various programs, including victim services, counseling, and domestic violence advocacy, we assist clients and victims of crime by providing shelter, crisis intervention, safety planning, transportation, counseling, and assisting law enforcement.

Program areas at Community Chest

Community Support/Victim Services, Counseling and Domestic Violence Advocacy: Various programs directed at assisting clients as well as victims of crime by providing shelter, crisis intervention, safety planning, transportation, counseling, assisting law enforcement with property returns, education, and assistance in filing for victim compensation. Mental health counseling, food bank and community health work.
Service Learning: Developing high quality service-learning programs in schools. Service learning is an educational method which engages young people in service to their communities as a means of enriching academic learning and promoting personal growth.
Work Force Development: Community Chest, Inc. assists clients with immediate needs; finding employment and training programs that directly benefit clients. This program is offered in Fernley, Hawthorne, Yerington, Fallon, Silver Springs, Dayton, and Virginia City.
Youth Care: The Community Chest Child Development Center is open for kids K-12. We focus on providing a safe, affordable, and high-quality program to children and families. Our environment will help to nurture both social and academic skills through our play-based learning model. We provide breakfast and snacks, assist children in homework, reading, social skills development, recreation and theme-based activities to enrich the lives of youth. We partner with Storey County School District to provide an all-encompassing approach.
