Program areas at DoSomething
Dosomething is the youth-centered hub for digital activism. We have 30 years of experience in activating young people to take action to improve their communities. We build campaigns and programming that educate and equip young people to lead change to build community; ensure safety and wellbeing for themselves and their peers; push for a more just and equitable society; and protect our planet. In 2022, we equipped young people to share how climate change is impacting them and their communities and their vision for a greener future through our anthem award winning see us, hear us: climate justice program. We educated them about careers in stem and equipped them to advocate for stem education in their schools to bridge the stem readiness gap. We helped young people take charge of their mental health and wellness and worked to destigmatize the topic by equipping themselves and their peers with diverse, accessible mental health resources, while also arming them to advocate for additional health and mental health resources in their schools nationwide. Dosomething fueled young people through campaigns that were intersectional, equitable, and impactful: community building. Our members took action to unify and serve their communities by volunteering over 20,638 hours to help those in need by donating 81,102 non-perishable food items to local food banks and 157,547 menstrual products to local homeless shelters. Environment & climate justice. Climate justice and saving our planet continues to be a top issue of concern for dosomething members and their peers globally. We ran several campaigns to equip young people to take action to improve our climate. They collected 416,036 cigarette butts through get the filter out and saved 5,691 pounds of co2 emissions by switching from solo car rides to carpools, bike rides, and public transit through go there greener. Equity & racial justice. We continued to educate and equip young people to see themselves and have a sense of belonging in the stem field through our make stem 100% program. Dosomething members shared over 42,000 stem career guides with their peers and advocated for stem education in their schools to close the stem readiness gap preventing them from pursuing their dream stem career. Health & mental wellness. Young people are facing a mental health crisis exacerbated by the impact of the pandemic and the increasing presence of technology and social media. They are navigating the significant consequences of social isolation, grief, and anxiety. We built programming to educate and equip our members to take care of their mental health and wellbeing. Our vibe check program created a safe conversation space for young people to discuss and explore how they can protect themselves and their wellbeing; share diverse and accessible mental health resources with their peers; and advocate for additional mental health funding in their schools. We also awarded $57,000 in scholarships to 43 young people to help them create economic mobility as they continue their changemaking journey. In addition to our program accomplishments, we continue to have strong financials and for the 16th year in a row, we received 4 stars on charity navigator; less than 1% of charities received this ranking for 16 consecutive years. As you can see, 2022 was a successful year for dosomething.orgDosomethingorgrg! For more amazing highlights, see our year in review at https://www.dosomethingyir.org/. Let's Do this!
