Program areas at East Bay Sanctuary Covenant
Refugee rights program (rrp). The program provides free and low-cost legal services for people escaping all forms of violence and persecution. Ebsc helps people apply for affirmative asylum and offers other legal services such as permanent residency, family petitions for asylees, deferred action for childhood arrivals ("daca"), temporary protected status ("tps"), special immigrant juvenile status, and naturalization. Ebsc maintains a regular docket of defensive immigration cases. Ebsc also assists clients in applying for their work permits, travel documents, and advance parole. Ebsc also provides support services for nonlegal needs, including applying for public benefits.
Community development and education program (cde). The program develops leadership and skills among immigrant community members through free classes and events related to health, rights, and other themes. The program provides warm referrals for mental health and other support services, cash assistance, arts workshops, and english as a second language ("esl") and citizenship classes. The program also facilitates community forums, rallies, press conferences, and legislative visits to build support for immigrant communities.
Haiti emergency relief fund (herf) - provides support to students at the university of the aristide foundation (unifa); supports a radio station with national coverage; and supports mobile schools, among other projects. This project has given employment to 102 high school and college graduates who serve as teachers and also helped build shelter in four refugee camps. Continuing to help 1,000+ victims of natural disasters, providing support for the confederation of haitian workers. Provides funds for micro-credit and other cooperative, small business ventures, specially involving food production and processing of locally grown crops for local consumption.
Haiti rural education project (hep) provides funds to support rural schools in haiti. The primary needs are for teachers', directors', and custodian salaries, school supplies, and construction of latrines and permanent buildings.olas/lgbt Sanctuary project (olas)olas was founded in 2014. It offers supportive group experiences in the format of weekend workshops, retreats, and other events for lgbtq+ immigrants from latin america seeking asylum due to violence and discrimination in their countries of origin.
