Program areas at Edward M Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate

In 2022, despite the emergence of the omicron variant of covid-19, we built on our 2021 efforts to re-engage with schools, and successfully delivered our in-person and virtual civic education programming to thousands more students than the previous year. In addition, we began to rebuildour Senate immersion module (sim), a technology-supported simulation that helps students understand lawmaking and important policy issues. We completed the initial phase of the civic conversations project and are using some of the resulting classroom resources to help teachers and student develop dialogue skills to better navigate some of the challenging conversations that can arise around policy difference.
