Community programs - park maintenance and restoration programs continued in fy 2022 with the annual muddy river clean up, tuesdays with roses, second saturdays and do-it-yourself park clean up kits. The creation of a full-time, permanent position dedicated to group volunteer engagement late in the fiscal year has paved the way for year-round relationship building with volunteer groups. The Conservancy continued its focus on revitalizing charlesgate at the nexus of kenmore square, the fenway and the back bay. The Conservancy's watering truck, purchased at the end of fy 2021, had its inaugural season from june to september 2022 watering 110 young trees throughout the Necklace. Watering is a critical effort in supporting the establishment of young trees, particularly in drought conditions as experienced in summer 2022.
Olmsted tree society - the olmsted tree society was founded in 2013 as the 10th anniversary project of party in the park to preserve and maintain trees in the Emerald Necklace. The project will protect healthy trees with selective pruning and soil enhancement; plant new trees where needed in the back bay fens, riverway, olmsted park, franklin park, around jamaica pond and along the parkways of the Necklace.
