Program areas at Florida Government Finance Officers Association
The Annual Conference was held in Orlando this year. The conferencebrought together members and other public finance professionals toimprove and develop technical and managerial skills. Educationalworkshops were held on the most current governmental finance topics.Members had the opportunity to earn continuing education hours fortheir Certified Public Accountant licenses and other certifications.The conference had 887 attendees. Topics covered this year includedcloud-based solutions, procurement & purchasing, GASB updates,preventing & detecting fraud, remote work policies, minimum wage lawand other various topics.
The Leadership FGFOA class was held in Orlando this year. The class isdesigned to support and enhance the capabilities of Florida's financeofficers. This program is part of a series of leadership-directedprograms that includes pre-seminar sessions at the annual conferenceand the establishment of an emerging leaders group. The program focuseson the partipants, their teams, their organizations and theirinteraction with the broader governmental environment. 18 individualsparticipated in the class.
The School of Governmental Finance was held in Daytona Beach this year.The school itself offered educational sessions that were broken intotwo segments - basic/intermediate sessions and intermediate/advancedsessions. A participant could register for either or both sessions. Thebasic/intermediate courses were tailored for all financial supportstaff and for the staff person just beginning a career in governmentalfinance. These participants were exposed to an in-depth study andanalysis of basic governmental finance concepts and principles. Theintermediate/advanced courses were tailored for seasoned financeprofessionals looking for current information on complex issues of theday.Held in conjunction with the school, is the Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO) review course and testing.The Beginner Boot Camp was also held during the school. The Beginnercourse is an intense hands-on, workshop that will introduce the verybasics of accounting and financial reporting for state and localgovernments.Continuing Professional Education credit for CPAs and CGFOs was alsoavailable for attendees of the school or any of the educational eventsduring the school.In addition to the variety of educational topics covered, the schoolprovided several networking opportunities.A total of 230 registrants participated in the school.
