General programmatic work included 1) distributing visitor information through online and physical locations, 2) organized and promoted events including Stars Over Katahdin and 7th Anniversary Celebration, 3) provided online, telephone and in-person trip planning guidance for visitors and 4) educated the general public about the national monument and its resources.
Supported the growth of national monument administrative facilities/equipment and infrastructure through 1) visitor contact stations in Millinocket and Patten; 2) rent-free office space for National Park Service in Patten; 3) snowplowing at national monument north gate; 4) donating CAT excavator to NPS staff; 5) paying for Maine Conservation Corps environmental steward to support park service staff and 6) raising significant capital monies for a visitor contact station, priority park projects, and Wabanaki-directed projects.
Partnered with local organizations and local schools to 1) provide 3,453 student experiences with nature- and community-based programs; (monument programs in partnership with the National Park Service) 2) host the 6th annual Teacher Camp, 3) introduce Leave No trace courses and two Vacation Kids Camps and 4) support the Wabanaki Youth in Science Ancestral Lands Crew.
