Program areas at Great Shape
In 2022, the 1000 smiles dental project continued its rise up out of the shadow of covid 19. Our teams of volunteer dentists and support staff served in grenada, jamaica and turks & caicos serving some 14,000 people in those countries with 100% free dental care and education. Our sealant project returned in jamaica. In general, we provided fillings, root canals, sealants, dentures, extractions, cleanings, fluoride, blood pressure checks, x-rays and oral health education at a total program value of over 3,200,000 usd. The communities we serve were in very high need of care as the pandemic created a backlog of unmet dental care needs across the caribbean.
In 2022, our teach the teaches and superkids literacy projects in jamiaca featured some 65 volunteers providing critical teacher training and student-focused individual learning. The impact was massive.
In 2022, the icare project worked in barbdos and jamaica. Some 70 volunteers delivered free glasses, exams, diabetes screening, glaucoma treatment, retinopathy therapy, prescription glasses and cataract surgery. The value of our icare programs in 2022 was over 1,000,000.
