Educationhmi's training and education programs, tools and technologies help children, parents, non-profit constituents, individuals, teens, first responders, veterans, military personal and families learn how to self-regulate emotions, increase resilience, emotional intelligence and reduce stress. Highlights of 2022 (see schedule o):1. In response to the ukrainian war and refugee crisis, Heartmath provided the trauma education for humanitarian and emergency responders mini-course for free and had it translated into ukrainian, russian and polish. We also created a free guide for Heartmath trainers on how and when to use the tools and technology taught in the course, with traumatized individuals. This guide was made available for free to all Heartmath trainers in the event that they wished to assist people affected by man-made or natural disasters.2. The u.s. center for disease control awarded a 3-year grant to norc at the university of chicago, the university of Texas galveston medical branch and Heartmath Institute in 2019, to conduct a 30 school intervention of approximately 2,000 seventh grade students. Due to the pandemic work on the project was suspended in 2020. When the project resumed in late 2021, schools were struggling and operations had drastically changed with closures and students attending remotely, so the project had to be completely revised to another school district working with 9 schools, 450 ninth-grade students and training13 teachers with 2 teachers trained as trainers to conduct ongoing training after the project was completed in 2022. Results indicated that lower academic achievement students receiving the training, scored significantly higher for resilience and self-compassion and lower on symptoms of depression than their peers who didn't receive the training. Teachers that were trained also reported increased resilience and coping skills.3. Heartmath Institute continued all trainings online for certified trainers, mentors, coaches and clinicians, and certified 232 trainers and mentors in 2022. These trainings are delivered to nonprofits, government service agencies, educators, counselors, teachers, administrators, school staff, health professionals, veterans, first responders and other service providers to teach or incorporate Heartmath techniques into their existing training programs. Mentors and coaches provide one on one training and support for individuals. 4. Work continued on a new program for children ages 7-10 called wiseheart, an interactive online program for social-emotional learning focusing on vital life competencies such as, emotional self-regulation, social skills, mindfulness and the growth mindset to enhance learner's well-being, academic and social engagement and resilience.5. The resilient heart, a trauma-sensitive Heartmath course and certification video program developed to extend trauma-informed care, was provided to over 2,300 healthcare professionals, counselors and therapists in 2022.6. 404 people enrolled in the new stress and well-being assessment certification training that trainers can offer as a stand-alone service or as an assessment component added to their existing trainings, to assist in process and/or verify results.7. Presented in 5 education online virtual conferences, created a number of new online videos for educators, including 3 on different education applications for the emwave pro technology and several new and updated products in 2022.8. Number of members: 4,538 9. Added more new free online and social media resources, as well as new webinars, videos and blog articles on the web site. 10. In response to the global need, Heartmath continued providing the new Heartmath experience video training for free. This interactive program fosters emotional balance, mental clarity and more sustained resilience to mitigate stress and anxiety. Heartmath also continued providing the heartsmarts adventure online learning program for pre-k, kindergarten and first grade school students for free, to help youth with emotional management and resilience. 11. The Heartmath education project funded to provide heart-focused tools and programs to public- and private-school regular classrooms and special education and gifted programs. In 2022, 22 sponsorships were awarded to teachers, counselors, psychologists, administrators and others involved in educating children. 12. The donor supported Heartmath for communities project assists communities by providing sponsorships for first responders, rescue, police and firefighters, local service and nonprofit organizations, senior care facilities, social-service agencies and disaster and trauma victims. 11 sponsorships were awarded in 2022.13. The military service appreciation initiative was created to give back to those who've given so much by awarding scholarships for Heartmath services, programs and materials to assist veterans. Prior awardees continued serving veterans and military families throughout the year and 9 more sponsorships were awarded in 2022. Hmi continues to provide free h.e.a.r.t. (Heartmath education and resilience training) downloads online for military personnel, veterans and their families.14. The numerous educational, nonprofit and other service institutions around the world that implemented Heartmath technology and programs over the year are too many to name here.
Global coherence initiativethe global coherence initiative (gci) is a science-based hmi project designed to help individuals and groups work together in synchronicity and strategically to increase the impact of their individual efforts to create positive change on a global level. To date, six global coherence monitoring system sensor sites have been installed around the world to gather geo-magnetic data for ongoing study of the relationship between humanity and the planetary magnetic fields and the effects and potential interactivity of that relationship. Accomplishments in 2022 were (see schedule o):1. Gcms staff and volunteers continued to maintain, repair and collected continuous data from global coherence monitoring system sensor sites in the united states, saudi arabia, canada, new zealand, lithuania and south africa. The live data feeds from these sites can be viewed online. 2. Presented in three virtual events and conferences and provided 5 sponsorships.3. Provided free information including online videos, webinars, training and resources on website and facebook, twitter and youtube.4. Hosted the tenth annual global coherence event again in march 2022 as a virtual event with about 800 people registered.5. Hosted 12 gci care focuses in the global coherence app uniting visitors from around the globe in synchronous heart coherence sessions.
Researchthe research center conducts basic research into psychophysiology, neurocardiology and biophysics, and outcome studies in clinical, workplace, educational and first responder settings, frequently in collaboration with universities, research centers and health-care-system partners. Research interests also include the electrophysiology of intuition and exploring how we are all globally interconnected at a deep, fundamental level via electromagnetic fields and bio-fields. Following are some accomplishments in 2022 (see schedule o):1. Completed phase 2 of the global tree monitoring network, created to collect electrical potential data from multiple types of trees in different locations around the world to research their connection to other trees and life forms. This phase of the project is refining the hardware and software for transmitting the data to a public website. In 2022, we assembled 64 more complete tree monitoring systems including guides for a total of 75 so far. 42 of those were installed by volunteering citizen scientists around the world. Data collection began and results can be viewed on the website https://treerhythms.net/. 2. Continued the global consciousness 2.0 project. This project originated from the global consciousness project that was created in the princeton engineering anomalies research lab at princeton university in 1998 and directed by roger nelson. That project collected continuous data from random number generators located in over 60 sites around the world and synchronized the data to detect anomalous deviations associated with global events when there is widespread participation or reaction to the event. The new 2.0 project is entirely re-designed including hardware, to take the original project to the next level. In 2022, the design of new random number generator (rng) units, construction and testing of 10 units was completed and groundwork laid for the gcp 2.0 website for public information and engagement with the project. Production of the rng units will commence in 2023.3. Developing a new psychometric survey for team coherence and personal assessment. Similar to our existing personal and organizational quality assessment tool, this tool is specifically designed for long-term teamwork. Evaluation of the performance of this new assessment will begin in 2023.4. Began a new study on heart-brain interaction focusing on how a heart-coherent state may affect information processing in the brain, specifically exploring self-talk and how positive and negative inner dialogue affect the hearts neural traffic to the brain. 5. The hmi research team provided 24 hour hrv autonomic assessment reports and 'personal and organizational quality assessment' survey forms for organizations and independent researchers. In addition, the team provided statistical analysis services, pre and post psychometric survey reports and extensive consulting, analysis and project work for independent researchers and organizations doing work related to hmi's mission.6. Presented in 8 national and international online conferences and events and 2 online courses in 2022,7. Published two studies in 2022. "correlation between st elevation myocardial infarction, non st elevation myocardial infarction and the local earth's magnetic field changes" by giedr vanagait, gabriel jakukait, greta iubryt, mantas landauskas, alfonsas vainoras, rollin mccraty, and gediminas jarueviius. The study examined 1,667 patients admitted to a hospital in lithuania to look at how changes in the earth's magnetic field relate to heart attacks of different types. The findings support previous research that has suggested a link between changes in the earth's magnetic field and heart-related events. "following the rhythm of the heart: Heartmath Institute's path to hrv biofeedback", rollin mccraty. Springer science+business media, llc, part of springer nature, 2022. The author and their colleagues have conducted extensive research on heart rate variability (hrv) and hrv coherence biofeedback. Their findings indicate that hrv feedback has the potential to enhance self-regulation,8. So many independent research studies were published in 2022 which expanded on or further supported that it's not possible to list them all here. 9. The research fund, established in 2012 to expand, disseminate and carry out Heartmath research, supports ongoing research, collaborations with universities and other researchers around the world, scientific studies and resulting publications. In addition to ongoing studies, the research team produced new videos, webinars, online presentations, articles and papers.10. The global coherence app, a grant funded mobile app launched in 2020 that allows people to connect in a worldwide network focused on generating global heart coherence, currently has over 85,000 users worldwide. Completed development and launched a camera-sensor that allows users to measure their individual coherence levels using their mobile phone.
