Description
Her Justice seeks to make a real and lasting difference in the lives of women—low-income, under-served, abused—by offering them legal services designed to foster equal access to justice and an empowered approach to life. We fulfill our mission by providing free legal services, primarily in the areas of matrimonial, family and immigration law, in a way that acknowledges mutual respect, encourages personal growth, and nurtures individual and collective strength. We also work to promote policies that make our society more responsive to the legal issues confronting the women we serve.

Program areas at Her Justice

Since 1993, Her Justice has ensured that women receive critical legal services that help them achieve safety, self-sufficiency and stability. We offer a full range of free legal services information, advice, drafting court documents and full representation in family, divorce and immigration matters to address the vital needs of new york city women and children, especially survivors of intimate partner violence and immigrants isolated by language and culture. What makes Her Justice unique is our ""pro bono first"" model. We specialize in offering pro bono assistance by connecting volunteer lawyers from over 80 premier firms with women living in poverty who desperately need a lawyer. Her Justice trains and mentors the volunteer attorneys to provide essential legal assistance to impoverished women and children living in new york city. Her Justice identifies women with cases that would result in serious injustice without legal help. Her Justice matches the best legal services to each client and brings the power of the legal profession to those who need it most, empowering low-income women and children to avoid homelessness and overcome poverty and abuse. Last year, Her Justice provided essential legal assistance to over 6,900 women and their children. Every dollar donated to Her Justice delivers $8 worth of legal services to our clients at no cost to them.
