Program areas at Job Path
Supported living our supported living program provides an alternative to traditional group homes. The program helps people find appropriate housing and puts in place whatever staffing supports they need to manage their lives, their health and their households. Some people live alone while others live with one or two roommates. In some circumstances, people live with a nondisabled roommate who provides some of their support. Individuals receive whatever level of assistance they need from a few hours per week up to 24/7 support.
Day supports (community supports/life coaching)job Path's community connections program helps people connect to civic, recreational and educational activities in their communities. Designed as an alternative to group oriented day habilitation programs, community connections supports just over 100 people, each of whom has their own schedule of activities based on their particular interests and receives assistance from Job Path's direct support professional staff. The pandemic continues to have a significant impact on this program. Although as conditions improved, many people began to receive in-person support, much programming still occurs on virtual platforms. We offered a wide range of activities including everything from a virtual travel group to spanish classes. Our outside voices theater company, poetry collective and art studio meet virtually as well. In addition, our staff met individually with people, using virtual means to help them continue to build skills and explore their interests.
Employment we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to join the workforce. The customized employment strategies that provide the foundation for our work enable us to fulfill the promise of "employment for all." These strategies pinpoint the skills and talents that even people with the most significant disabilities can bring to the workforce and provide ways to work with businesses to create jobs that work for both the employee and the employer. This past year, Job Path supported over 300 people in its employment programs. In addition to helping new enrollees find employment, this past year we focused on getting people back to work since the majority of the people who had jobs were furloughed when the pandemic hit. Approximately 85% of these individuals have returned to their previous employment or have been placed in new jobs. We've been pleased to add five new businesses to our list of approximately 125 employer partners, and to see many longtime partners turn to Job Path when they need to hire. Under the auspices of our employment program, we operate several special projects. Established in 2012, Job Path's consortium for customized employment (cce) brings together 14 organizations that are committed to using customized employment for their Job seekers and a network of more than 60 businesses that understand these strategies and use them to hire Job seekers from member agencies. In addition to the cce's Job development efforts, member agencies gather monthly for presentations from national experts and to share experiences and learn from one another. Since the beginning of the pandemic, we've used virtual platforms for the monthly gatherings, and participation has remained strong. In addition, we operate four special projects that further our mission to provide best practices in the field. For example, through project next step, we partner with a school operated by new york city's department of education, working with students in school in the years prior to graduation. Project next step helps individuals who are currently employed to advance in their careers. Project skill build, is an industry specific career training program. This year we completed the development of a customized baking curriculum for participants in our day hab program, which ran during the fall of 2022. Our newest program, project skill up, is a customized skill building program which assists people to receive 1:1 training on skills that they have identified will boost their confidence, and expand their skill sets, which can be added to their resumes.
