Program areas at Kiwanis Club of Anacortes Wa Foundation
Community Service - The Foundation provides resources in the form of cash grants and volunteer hours to support a wide variety of educational, recreational, cultural, human service and charitable endeavors on Fidalgo Island. Example of recipient groups are the Anacortes Parks Foundation, Island Health Foundation and the Anacortes Schools Foundation. In partnership with the Salvation Army and Anacortes Family Center, our Foundation offers a needs-based voucher program where qualifying families my receive shopping vouchers they may use toward the cost of merchandise purchased in our Foundation's thrift shop. Eighteen grants ranging from $500 to $54,000 were awarded this year
Youth Services - Resources and volunteer hours are given to a variety of groups delivering educational, recreational and cultural opportunities to youth. Examples of projects and groups supported are early learning programs, summer reading programs, outdoor education programs, Boys and Girls Club activities and Salvation Army summer camp programs. Three grants ranging from $2,000 to $10,000 were awarded.
Scholarships - The foundation awards scholarship funds to graduating seniors of the Anacortes School District who will pursue post high school academic and technical studies. Scholarships are also awarded to district graduates to continue post high school education and training. Scholarships are granted based on objective criteria such as academic excellence and financial need without regard to race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity or religious affiliation. This year 15 students received scholarships.
Kiwanis Service Leadership Programs - Our Foundation provides volunteer advisors to Kiwanis International affiliated service leadership club; Key Club for High schools students, Builders Club at the middle school and KKids for grade schoolers. The foundation also gives financial support by paying operating expenses incurred by the clubs. The club activities provide community service opportunities to their members as well as the opportunity to develop leadership skills in a community service setting.
