Program areas at Legal Aid Society
Domestic violence victim assistance program provides child and adult victims of domestic abuse Legal assistance in obtaining orders or civil stalking injunctions. Legal Aid Society assisted 1,611 victims of domestic violence seeking protection from abuse in the fiscal year. These services also benefitted an additional 3,698 individuals who lived in the abusive household.
Self-help clinic provides assistance in obtaining necessary forms and general information for divorce and other family law matters to individuals representing themselves. 2,136 patrons received Legal help through the clinic.
Domestic relations program provides Legal Aid to low-income individuals in matters of divorce, child custody, child support and other family law issues. Legal Aid Society helped 101 clients achieve family stability. These services benefited an additional 451 individuals living in the home.
Bridge the gap provides qualifying clients who are victims of domestic violence expedited Legal assistance with their domestic relations matters due to the urgent nature of their cases. Legal Aid Society helped 103 victims of domestic violence obtain permanent domestic orders to ensure the victim doesn't need to return to the abuser due to the financial needs or to keep their children. 292 children in these families also benefitted from these services.
