Program areas at Mi Centro
Mi Centro has continued to provide family support services to over 108 victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse. These victims were provided with emergency shelter and/or moving expenses to start a new healthy and safe life. Additional assistance also may have included advocacy support on filing restraining orders, looking for new housing, providing hygienic packages and providing therapy/counseling services. Mi Centro, in collaboration with tacoma police department hosted its first breaking barriers conference to provide an educational opportunity for 113 first responders and advocates in Washington state.
For social services Mi Centro, in collaboration with pierce county, has provided rental assistance to over 120 households totaling distribution of over $1,800,000. This has helped families to maintain safe housing as they continue to survive the pandemic. Along with this, Mi Centro has also provided assistance to communities via 2041 phone calls received, hosted a holiday event for 120 families, welcomed 389 individuals for one-on-one assistance and collaborated at numerous community outreach events through the year networking with over 1,620 participants.
For the educational resources, Mi Centro has graduated over 71 fellows assisted with financial stipends and internships, civic engagement projects, scholarships and networking events. In its second year the small business navigator project helped 129 latino small business owners formalize their business licensing and gain support in accessing available resources through pierce county.
The opening of the arreguin arts and cultural center allowed Mi Centro to host 5 arts and cultural events which welcomed over 2,207 in attendance.
