Michigan Virtual is a nonprofit educational organization that is leading and collaborating to build learning environments for tomorrow. Driven by student success, we have a strong record of supporting Michigan education that spans more than two decades. While many know us for our research-based, quality online learning options for students and professional development for educators, we also do a great deal of work behind the scenes to conduct original research, test innovations in learning, and provide consulting partnerships to promote effective practices. In 2022-23, Michigan Virtual accomplished the following:-delivered over 35,000 student enrollments to nearly 19,000 students in 286 different online courses.-helped Michigan educators maintain their certification by providing more than 270,000 completed state continuing education clock hours (scechs).-served over 255,000 enrollments to more than 95,000 learners across 340 online professional development courses.-worked to boost our state's literacy rates with over 25,700 enrollments provided in essential instructional practices in early literacy courses.-in partnership with a variety of leading educational organizations, hosted a series of online professional development courses for educators on social emotional learning, which yielded a total of over 27,000 enrollments in fy 23.-receive a 96% highly satisfied score from the 119,000 professional learners who completed our end-of-course survey.-received enrollments from educators across 100% of the state's isds, 99% of the lea districts, 100% of the psa districts, and 78% of nonpublic schools.-helped schools provide students with access to more than 1,300 mental health and social emotional lessons through the Michigan cares program, which reached a total of over 154,000 student users for fy 23.-published ten research reports on topics including synchronous learning in online courses, the power of personalized professional development, and insights into the effectiveness of student-centered learning in k-12 education.-continued to offer consulting services for k-12 schools and organizations to support stakeholders as they work to design, implement, and operationalize innovative delivery models.-continued a partnership with the new future of learning council and provided administrative support and meeting space to facilitate their work.-introduced updated versions of thirteen high school courses in the 2022-23 school year, such as anatomy and physiology, ap physics c: mechanics, and british literature. Additionally, expanded middle and high school offerings through partnerships with other content providers, incorporating titles like learning in a digital world and careers in criminal justice.-thirteen courses underwent review and certification by quality matters to ensure adherence to national online course quality standards.-reviewed and supported more than 1,500 plan documents for special education students.-served over 2,300 students enrolled in three or more teacher-led Virtual courses.-launched three new learning enrichment opportunities for k-12 students: an introduction to content creation course, a 21st-century home economics course, and a series of medical terminology courses.-in partnership with spartan innovations, the burgess institute at Michigan state University, and the small business development center of Michigan, hosted our first-ever edtech innovation pitch contest and bootcamp, which awarded a total of $22,000 in business startup grants and legal and creative startup assistance to five winning teams of educators.-processed 11,350 customer calls, closed 13,800 customer tickets, and maintained a 92% satisfaction rating through our customer care center.-announced the opening of an artificial intelligence (ai) lab to expand the leadership role of the institute to include investigating the instructional, policy, ethical, and legal aspects connected to the use of ai in public schools, and creating resources, trainings, and school partnerships to help build awareness about the increasingly disruptive technology of ai and help districts plan and prepare for the future.-a comprehensive ai guidebook was developed in collaboration with 22 school district leaders across Michigan. School leaders can use the guidance to help identify areas where more information and research is needed, make informed decisions, address concerns, and ensure a successful and inclusive implementation of ai technologies. The ai guidebook was endorsed by seven Michigan educational organizations.-organized a trip to the 2023 asu+gsv summit, one of the most impactful convenings of leaders in education and workforce development, for 13 Michigan superintendents and their leadership teams.-partnered with miregistry, an organization that supports professionals who run daycare centers, after-school programs, and early childhood programs, to provide an online learning option for state certification. This partnership has enabled nearly 40,000 miregistry users to renew their licenses.
