Program areas at Mil Milagros

Early childhood development program - Mil Milagros taught more than 150 mothers about early childhood development, nutrition, health/hygiene, and parenting in in-person classes and videos broadcast on local cable stations, and served nearly 200 children from birth through age three. Program activities led to a reduction in severe chronic malnutrition from 25% to 21% among participating children 0 to 3 years old. Education program - in 2022, Mil Milagros expanded its advanced literacy techniques course to all interested teachers in our 11 partner schools, and provided supplies, books, and teaching support to all teachers. We piloted a traveling library program to ensure children and teachers have access to a variety of culturally appropriate storybooks. At year-end, 74% of first graders were reading on grade level. Health and hygiene program - schools reopened on a hybrid schedule in march 2022 and Mil Milagros provided additional resources and support to ensure compliance with hygiene protocols. In addition to the hygiene supplies normally provided, mm provided masks and hand sanitizer to all 11 partner schools. Staff trained mother leaders to comply with and monitor the government-mandated hygiene protocols and mother and student leaders led virtual public health campaigns in their schools. 100% of children had access to hygiene supplies and water filters at school.
