Program areas at Partners for A Hunger Free Oregon

Advocacy & community engagement: in the year ending june 30, 2022, phfo advocated for federal protections and expansions to school meals and to the supplemental nutrition and assistance program (snap) that benefits over 600,000 oregonians. In Oregon, we supported legislation to provide one-time payments to 260,000 low-wage earners to help support their families. We supported legislation that secured overtime wage protection for farmworkers. Phfo also supported legislation to declare racism A public health issue.
Snap outreach: in the year ending june 30, 2022, phfo either directly or indirectly served approximately 139,317 persons with information about the snap program, through our website or through training and outreach materials & programs. We advocated for waivers and changes to increase benefits, and to make snap benefits as widely available as possible during the pandemic.
Child Hunger prevention: in the year ending june 30, 2022, we advocated for and provided information, education, and resources to ensure access for over 300,000 Oregon kids who are eligible for Free and reduced-price school meals. With the end of federal waivers in the fall of 2022, we held webinars and got information out to the media to raise awareness of student access to nourishing meals.
Lobbying: under this program, phfo supports and advocates for legislation that addresses Hunger and proverty. Phfo publishes A policy agenda each year. During state legislative sessions, staff may testify at hearings, make legislative visits and assist policy makers in developing and promoting policy-based solutions to Hunger and proverty in Oregon.
