In 2022, we elevated the work of dei, by restructuring resources with plans to align and scale dei strategies across the Providence family of organizations. We continue to execute on our integrated strategic & financial plan which clearly expresses our commitment and acceleration of this important work to address social, racial, and economic disparities in the communities we serve. Providence's social responsibility framework aims to deploy the assets of our system to support community health improvement, strengthen local economies and reduce our carbon footprint. We have implemented an environmental stewardship system strategy that encourages waste reductions, efficient energy and water usage, local agriculture partnerships, less toxic and fewer chemical use, and a reduction in carbon from travel. We have also held environmental stewardship as one of the top priorities for our leadership incentive program to ensure alignment and momentum continues. In april 2022, Providence published its first environmental stewardship report, in which we reported 12 percent reduction in carbon emissions in seven key categories in our acute care facilities since our 2019 baseline. As of september 30, 2022, (the most recent data available), we have increased that reduction to 13 percent.providence Portland Medical Foundation provides operational and capital support to a number of hospital programs. The majority of the Foundation's annual funding goes to support cancer research efforts for the robert w. franz cancer center and the earle a. chiles research institute. Our scientists continue to make dramatic progress in the race to find a cure for cancer using the body's own immune system. Immunotherapy has been shown to be highly effective in several types of advanced cancers, including lung, bladder, pancreatic, lymphoma, and kidney cancers, as well as melanoma.in 2022, we continued to support the tremendous growth within cancer research raising over $5,600,000 for the recruitment of new scientists and support the ongoing needs of the cancer institute.we received a $4,300,000 grant to help meet the expanding needs around behavorial health. The Oregon health authority provided support to build a new stabalization and recovery area adjacent to the hospital's emergency department. This new space will allow the hospital to better meet the needs of the community. We also continued to support efforts to further implement a new cardio-oncology program at Providence cancer institute. Our Foundation raised $1,600,000 in 2022 to support this multi-disciplinary program that combines expertise from both the Providence heart institute and the Providence cancer institute with the goal to provide special care for cancer patients that also face heart-related health issues. Other 2022 highlights include:growth within cancer research whereby Foundation dollars were used for the recruitment of new scientists and support the ongoing needs of the cancer institute.the continued growth of the emergency services fund to help meet the growing programmatic and capital needs associated with the emergency department at Providence Portland Medical center. Expanded support for behavorial helath priorities including a government grant to provide capital programatic support for a new stabilization and recovery area at the hospital. The Foundation provided assistance to catholic charities for its administration of the helping hand fund, which provided living assistance to employees within the Providence health & services - Oregon corporation.other grants & allocations to ppmc for internal medicine residency program, hospitalist program, heart services, senior health services, and the neonatal intensive care unit.
