Program areas at Salvadori Center

Salvadori has a wide variety of multi-day in-school, after-school, and summer programs that enhance social and emotional learning through a collaborative and project-based approach, allowing students to see how science, technology, engineering, architecture/arts, and math (steam) is a part of everyday life. Salvadori programs help students understand the relevance of what they are learning by connecting grade-specific math, science, and arts concepts to their cultures, communities, and their immediate built environment - buildings, bridges, parks, and communities - so they can see themselves as successful in steam degrees and careers. Continues on schedule o students learn new things about the city they live in. They see the math and science in the buildings they enter, the bridges they cross, and the parks they play in. They quickly understand why math and science are relevant to their lives. The teachers we coach become our strongest advocates and schools return to work with us year after year. In fact, over 75% of schools returned each year. Salvadori educators work with schools to build durable skills, engage all students, provide results that reflect high levels of ownership, and directly support educational standards through the (4) pillars with an emphasis on: collaboration - working together to hypothesize, build, test, and solve problems critical thinking - analyzing how and why things work creativity - posing creative solutions to real-world challenges communication - listening, learning, and articulating complex ideas and concepts our programs help schools: make math, science, and the arts intellectually accessible for all learners increase student comprehension and success at grade-level math and science lay the foundation for future steam degrees and/or careers our prices have not changed since 2013! Last year, we provided programs to 10,586 students in 370 classrooms through 4,340 sessions, in 117 sites, for 112,598 student impact hours across all 5 boroughs - 25% more students than our pre-covid impact. And this year, we are on track to serve even more students! We are very proud to have a culture of service and to be able to respond and help students in need! Assessing what we value for eight years our independent assessments show Salvadori programs yield statistically significant positive change in student comprehension around grade-specific math and science concepts. And in 2019/2020, a new assessment showed that Salvadori students performed significantly better on standardized tests! Perhaps even more impressive, a new york university study compared Salvadori students with non-salvadori students and found that students who didn't receive Salvadori programs showed a steady decrease in their perception that math and science are relevant. Students who received Salvadori increased their perception that math and science are relevant and maintained a sense that math and science are relevant even months after the program ended. Qualitative and anecdotal data collected from classroom teachers, Salvadori educators, and students complement and reinforce independent assessment findings are available on our website). In summary, Salvadori programs: promote college and career readiness engage students through project-based exercises use the built environment as a vehicle for learning employ collaborative problem solving that involves all participants produce results that reflect high levels of creativity and ownership
