Program areas at SCDCAP
Child education:head start is a birth to five program that promotes school readiness for low-income children while supporting the development of the whole child. The program provides center-based education, social services, health, and nutrition services to 241 children, ages 3-4 years old, living in Scott, Carver, and Dakota counties. In addition, the program operates a home visiting model for pregnant women and children birth - 3 years old, in early head start, serving 100 children and their families.from fall 2021 to spring 2022, 3 and 4-year-old children in our program had an average increase of more than 20% in meeting or exceeding in their developmental outcomes. This improvement was in social/emotional maturity, cognitive, language, literacy, mathematics, and physical development. Of the children enrolled in our program, 100% are up to date on medical and dental exams. 100% of our head start families participated in a goal setting process resulting in a family partnership agreement.
Food programs:the food & nutrition programs include food shelf and senior nutrition. The food shelf utilizes a client-choice model to provide a 7-day supply of food each calendar month. The food shelf also delivers food to senior housing buildings and provides pop-up food distributions in Scott, Carver and Dakota counties. The food shelf provided 103,894 residents with 2,342,753 pounds of food. The senior nutrition program continues to provide affordable, well-balanced meals to elderly and disabled persons in congregate settings and home delivered meals to home bound individuals. Senior nutrition provided 124,248 nutritious, hot mid-day meals from 15 senior nutrition sites throughout Scott, Carver and Dakota counties.
Housing:cap's housing programs provided stability to over 322 households a year through services such as emergency, transitional, rapid, rehousing and permanent housing programs. These households consisted of a total of 606 persons. The program also provides assistance for homeless, short-term assistance, homeless prevention, and other wrap around services to assist persons in need of housing.
Energy program: the energy assistance program helps eligible households with energy bill payment assistance, home energy crisis intervention, outreach, energy advocacy, information about utility consumer rights, and referrals. Energy assistance program provided support to 12,587 households in Scott, Carver and Dakota counties.
Community service program: the community service programs provide seasonal support to current and potential Cap families. Projects include backpack distribution, hope for the holidays for families and seniors, dia de los ninos, and the eid celebration. The community service programs provided support to 2,903 individuals in Scott, Carver and Dakota counties.
Other program services
