Community empowerment and cultural vitality enhances tribal identity and cultural vitality through individual and collective creative expression and practices, foster leadership development, and advances cultural and social justice within this program. Food justice is part of cultural revitalization as many of the traditional foods are connected to cultural traditions, subsistence lifeways, and Indigenous Peoples' fundamental relationships to land, community and collective spirit.
Flicker Fund: responds to crisis impacts by supporting basic and urgent health, wellness and nutritional needs, including clean water, of the most vulnerable with a focus on elders, multi-generational households and families with children under the age of five years old; engages with traditional healing practices and remedies, food systems and immune support. This program also amplifies historic and cultural teachings, stories and lifeways that advance traditional knowledge systems informing community members on health, healing and moving forward with vitality. Thriving women responds to violence against native women and girls and two-spirit relatives, and nurturing the health, vitality and safety of Indigenous women, girls and families. This support includes culturally centered trauma healing responses, traditional birthing and midwifery practices, restoring herbal medicines, subsistence lifeways, revitalizing intergenerational wisdom exchanges, coming of age ceremonies, and native women generated approaches to empowerment, healing and traditional practices. This work identifies, challenges, and disrupts the ongoing oppression and exploitation of our people that continue to plague and harm our families, communities, and distinct Indigenous nations.
Land defenders and water protectors support native-led, often frontline actions against incursions, unwanted development, and extractive industries, responding to climate change and climate action, as well as threats to sacred sites in Indigenous communities, lands and territories protecting mother earth through Indigenous stewardship and traditional knowledge.
