Program areas at SSSM
School and public eventsthe Seaport Museum welcomed over 46,001 unique visitors for free in 2022. All public programs were free in 2022. Exciting New programs like vinyasa on a vessel, screening of the film "maiden," puppy adoption with animal lighthouse rescue, pride-themed "rainbows on the hudson" boat parade, and chilean independence day fiestas patrias were mixed with panel conversations like "russell shorto and friends," "history and heroism," "readiness and resilience: 10 years after sandy." School-age field trips resumed in the Seaport Museum's historic galleries, dockside on pier 16 and in the historic district on steam topics, serving over 3,000 nyc students in grades k-12.
Curatorialthroughout the year, visitors enjoyed the free exhibitions "South Street and the rise of New York and "millions: migrants and millionaires aboard the great liners, 1900-1914" in schermerhorn row. Designed for the youngest visitors, "Seaport discovery: exploring our waters with eric carle" opened in april. Bowne & co., stationers reopened its doors to the public in june. Fan-favorite public programs, like the monthly sea chantey sings and annual partnerships with jane's walk, city of water day, archtober, open house New York, and urban archive, all continued as well.
Marine operationsthroughout the year, visitors of all ages explored 1885 cargo ship wavertree and 1908 lightship ambrose outdoors for free. During the peak sailing months, both 1885 schooner pioneer and 1930 tugboat w.o. Decker took trips out on New York harbor.
