Riding for focus:in 2022, Outride granted 58 new middle schools the riding for focus program across the us and canada. the program integrates a cycling program into the physical education curriculum to improve students cognitive, physical, and socio-emotional wellbeing. To support the programs, Outride granted 3,229 bikes and helmets and trained teacher champions in the riding for focus curriculum.
Research:outride's research aims to understand how riding a bike impacts the cognitive, social, and emotional health of youth. We do this through both applied research and program evaluation with our riding for focus program and through supporting and collaborating on institutional research at universities across the country. Our annual summit serves to disseminate the most recent research on the impact of youth cycling programs on the health and happiness of youth and their communities, helping to put research into practice.
Outride fund:the Outride fund empowers local communities to invest in youth cycling programs through a combination of fundraising and dollar-for-dollar matching grants. In 2022, Outride awarded one round of Outride fund grants. This, the fifth round, committed over $600,000 in matching funds to 68 organizations focused on improving diversity, equity, inclusion and opportunity for youth riders. the Outride fund has now committed over $1,600,000 in matching grants via 200 community grants in 40 states since its inception in 2019.
