We passed these profits on to unique conservation and humanitarian efforts around the globe including jane goodall's roots and shoots program, big life foundation, great plains conservation's project ranger, sealegacy, ol pejeta conservancy, and direct relief.in 2022, we were able to provide over a half a million dollars in medical equipment to war-torn regions, support the salaries and equipment of 60 rangers, create a monitoring program for pangolins, fund a salmon action platform, finance two new films, create a yearlong storytelling mentorship for 40 kenyan conservationists and more.through our inaugural and holiday sales, we were also able to provide generous royalty payments to the photographs who tell these stories, enabling them to continue capturing the ideas, places, people and wildlife that will move us all to action.
Mentorships and grantsin spring 2022, Vital Impacts created a year-long visual storytelling mentorship program for 40 kenyan conservationists who are working to protect endangered wildlife and their threatened terrestrial and ocean habitats in kenya. Which stores are included, what is emphasized and what is ignored depend on the narrators themselves. We believe that a diversity of voices is critical to developing a nuanced understanding of our world. We share the work of our collaborators on our platforms and in global media. We connect those who are closest to critical conservation with funding and media opportunities.in fall 2022, we launched the Vital Impacts environmental photography grants and mentorship program to be awarded in 2023. The purpose of our grants and mentorships is to support and encourage visual storytellers to create a long-term documentary photography project with local communities who are working to protect the environment and wildlife.two grants in the amount of $20,000 are to be awarded to support the development of a documentary project on the work of an environmental story over the course of twelve months. The purpose of our grants is to support and encourage visual storytellers to create a long-term documentary photography project with local communities who are working to protect the environment and wildlife. "our hope is that these grants and mentoring programs will foster and support other ways of seeing," says Vital Impacts founder ami vitale. "we want to create opportunities and space at this critical moment for the next generation of environmental storytellers to explore the most complex environmental issues with originality and nuance. "we create 1-on-1 mentorships, pairing 50 emerging photographers with leading environmental storytellers and photo editors. Mentorship pairs will meet one-on-one for six sessions over a 12-month period to help recipients develop their photographic project and help connect you to outlets to get the work published.they are also encouraged to attend our monthly Vital Impacts lecture series that we hope will be both inspirational and an opportunity to connect with other environmental photographers, editors, and scientists around the world. All applicants to the grants and mentorships will be invited to attend to help them navigate the complex and ever-changing media landscape and strengthen the bonds of our community.
