Program areas at Willem De Kooning Foundation
A wide range of researchers, including scholars, curators and conservators consulted The Foundation's archives, study materials, art collection and staff specialists toward monographs, exhibitions, and educational materials. This consultation was provided both in-person and remotely via video conference to lessen any impact of The pandemic on projects. Foundation specialists actively provided research findings, assistance in language translation, and guidance to organizations and authors toward their publications and exhibitions on Willem de Kooning and related subjects, which were widely accessible both within The united states and internationally. Activity one continuedpublic discussion on Willem de Kooning's life and work. The Foundation continued its in-house research and processing of documentation on Willem de Kooning's oeuvre and writings, toward eventual publication of resources to aid future scholarship on de Kooning and 20th century art. The Foundation continued to re-house, process, digitize and add to its archives. The care and preservation of its art collection is on-going.activity two:13 works were on long-term loan this fiscal year to institutions and municipalities including grand rapids art museum, johns hopkins university, longhouse reserve, stanford university law school and business school, new york university school of law, pinakothek der moderne, munich, The office of secretary antony blinken, Washington, dc and The city of rotterdam.
The Foundation continued to provide guidance and expertise to The university of Arizona museum of art and The getty conservation institute in support of The conservation of The university's painting by Willem de Kooning, woman ochre, 1954-55, and towards The work's exhibition at both locations. The Foundation welcomed 2 interns to learn and work alongside staff members.
Income from The licensing of The reproduction of and/or publication of Willem de Kooning's art constitutes some of The means by which The Foundation currently accomplishes its exempt purpose. Its exempt purpose is to preserve The art work of Willem de Kooning and provide access thereto; to create and maintain an archive of art works and reference papers relating to Willem de Kooning and provide access to The archive to scholars for research; to educate The public about The art of Willem de Kooning and art in general.
