Africare is committed to improving the quality of life of people in africa. Since our founding in 1970, Africare has delivered more than $1 billion in assistance to tens of millions of men, women, and children across the african continent.

Program areas at Africare

Health, including maternal & child health, hiv/aids, orphans & vulnerable children, malaria and water and sanitation - includes increasing activities where basic health care is limited to increase access to and use of quality services provided by rural health clinics, and linking those services to increased services provides by hospitals and primary health service networks. It also includes linking clean water supplies and improved water distribution systems, including well construction, to community level hygiene education and improved sanitation infrastructure.
Integrated rural development - includes activities to support rural areas facing challenges in water resources, irrigation, agriculture, nutrition and health to strengthen community resilience to external shocks.
Food security, relief and refugee assistance - including activities that use a combination of food resources and non-food resources, aimed at: improving food availability, access and utilization to promote healthy lives. Refugee assistance involves providing emergency aid to victims of natural and man-made disasters.
Agriculture and small scale irrigation - includes services that focus on aspects of food production, post-harvest value chains including post-harvest storage credit and training in farming as a business, and food utilization resulting from improved cultivation, including improved varieties for crops and livestock.
Other development programs - includes activities such as literacy, vocational and entrepreneurial training, microenterprise, civil society development and governance, and emergency humanitarian aid that are outside of and complement Africare's principal program areas.
