Trauma education project: the zimbabwe medical project partnered with the rotary club of knoxville, rotary foundation, American american college of surgeons and atls south africa to train initially a total of 16 nurses and 6 new atcn instructors who have subsequently held two more 2day training courses to train an additional 32 nurses who practice in hospitals from all over zimbabwe the first live web based lectures were carried by fiberoptic cable into the nursing school from the trauma teaching team at the university of tennessee, knoxville (see zimproject.org for details) in march 2016 in interactive teaching 3. A new nursing library was established at st philips nursing school with donations of medical books from knoxville physicians and the university of tennessee medical library. An online software program donated to the school allows nurses to search for medical textbooks available in the libray online via smartphone or computer. 4. Medical doctors and nurses continue to utilize the who hinari database to access more than 70000 medical and nursingjournals (made available for free by the zimbabwe medical project via a grant from hinari. Partnering in disease prevention and treatment: 1.eye project matabeleland north rotary partnership: in alliance with the rotary club of morrisville nc and rotary foundation and wild4life a rotary global grant has been approved to hold eye clinics in the 21 clinics serving matabeleland north. A total of approximately 2000 patients from rural villages wil be evaluated receive free eye glasses and patients with cataracts will be assessed and referred to our eye surgery team operating in victoria falls hospital (it is projected that we will perform vision restoring surgery on approximately 200 patients ) vitamin a sufficient to prevent blindness for a year in the 26000 children of the area clinics has been donated from vitamin angels transported to the area where it has now been distributed to the 21 clinics (this is part of a renewable grant from vitamin angels) this project is scheduled to begin in feb 2017. Partnering in disease prevention and treatment: 2.radiology partnership: there continues to be an active interchange of radiology consultations between the duke radiology teaching team that established ties during their teaching visit of 2014 with use of the radnet software upload system and use of the donated fiberoptic links established in 2015 which enables films to be uploaded to the radnet server partnering in disease prevention and treatment: 3. Kesari dam reconstruction, irrigation and clean water project zimbabwe medical project in partnership with rotary club of knoxville, rotary districts 6780 and 6170, rotary foundation and rotary club of bulawayo south have received approval for a jointly funded rotary global grant to reconstruct and enlarge the capacity of the breached kesari dam near kezi, the establishment of a downstream irrigation project and establishment of a filtered water facility for clean drinking water from a well at the base of the dam. This project has just broken ground in june 2016 and is expected to be completed by the start of the rainy season in november 2016.
