Program areas at 2C Mississippi Towards Sustainable Educated and Empowered Mississippi
In 2022, 2C Mississippi Towards Sustainable Educated & Empowered Mississippi (2cms) spearheaded three major projects: (1) neighborhood level heat emergency plan (heat) funded by the epa, (2) going green for a cool, healthy jackson (hcj) funded by the robert wood johnson foundation, and (3) flood mitigating infrastructure in west jackson funded by the hilton foundation. The last project received funding in november 2022, but the work did not start until 2023.neighborhood level heat emergency plan (heat):the oroganization developed a questionnaire about heat awareness; collected 400 responses, which were then analyzed and used for guiding future projects. 2cms also developed a heat emergency preparedness tri-fold brochure with the latest research findings and distributing 200 copies to community members. The organization conducted six community meetings (with an average of fifteen participants) which resulted in a neighborhood emergency plan with specific roles assigned to workshop participants. The organization also hosted an outreach booth during two local outdoor community events, where we shared information about the project.going green for a cool, healthy jackson (chj):2cms organized ten community meetings with an average of twenty participants. The organization developed architectural drawings and professional renderings for a system of three heat mitigating parks on farish street in jackson, ms. 2cms provided four in-kind lectures on green infrastructure and climate change to local universities and organized three outreach events at local public schools.
