Youth leadership development: promote comprehensive development of students with the goal of developing leaders who will be transformative agents in their own neighborhoods. Provide year-round mentoring for 10 students in middle school and high school who live in underserved neighborhoods. Our 2:52 after-school program completed its 13th year with 14 students. This program provides individualized educational instruction and focuses on developing student character, emotional competence, and leadership skills. Annual summer day camp completed 7 weeks of holistic student development programming for more than 40 students.
Elder services: the as we gather program combats senior social isolation by providing aging adults with socialization and education through virtual programming. Over 80 seniors were impacted by these efforts through in-person and virtual programs. Participants were trained in technology, given health skills, participated in age appropriate exercise, and did art and craft activities in more than 120 sessions. As we gather participants showed a 10% increase in quality of life and 20% improvement in loneliness in pre/post test measures.
Community engagement: 2nd Mile engaged the local neighborhood through a variety of community efforts. The annual family fall festival hosted over 650 guests while also offering services in education, health, and economics to the community. 2nd Mile operated a community nutritional garden, performed hundreds of hours of community clean-up, led a growing neighborhood association, and held events centered around basketball, games, and more for the local neighborhood to come together.
