Program areas at 9 / 11 Day
9/11 Day began the september 11 national Day of service and remembrance in 2002 to rekindle the remarkable spirit of unity and service that arose in the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy. The observance is now the nation's largest annual Day of charitable engagement, with tens of millions of americans participating each september. This year, over 20,000 meal pack volunteers, in 18 cities across the united states, honored those lost, injured and sickened from the attacks, as well as those who rose in service after the tragedy, by packing nutritious, non-perishable meals for families in need. Together, we provided more than 6.7 million healthy, non-perishable meals to local food banks in new york city, atlanta, boston, cincinnati, chicago, cleveland, columbus, dallas, denver, houston, los angeles, minneapolis, nashville, philadelphia, phoenix, st. louis, tampa, and Washington, d.c. for families and individuals facing food insecurity in these communities.9.11 Day will expand through out more cities nationwide leading up to the 25th anniversary of september 11th in 2026. With the addition of our education programs and continuation of our meal packs, we aim to keep the nation's promise to never forget.
