Credible Messenger Mentorship is a relationship-centered case management service offered to at-risk, out-of-school, gang-involved, and justice-impacted youth & their families. This initiative integrates service providers specializing in the necessary areas to work in tandem to support the individual needs and interest. It is based on the credible messenger model: previously justice-impacted individuals who have transformed their lives in a sustainable way and serve as mentors to youth who are entangled in the criminal-legal system. The theory behind the credible messenger model is that those with transformative incarcerated experiences should be on the frontlines of offsetting the impact incarceration perpetuates in the lives of young people. 914United spearheads this initiative via its partnerships with the Yonkers School District, Westchester County Department of Corrections, The Children's Village - Woodfield Detention Center, & Office of Family and Children Services.
D.R.I.L.L. TALK is a preventative initiative for gang-influenced and system-impacted youth (11 & older) attending the Yonkers Public School district. D.R.I.L.L stands for Developing Real Insight throughLearning & Leadership. This initiative consists of 1-hour interactive workshops that target life-skills and leadership development. Its curriculum draws from the lived experiences of credible messengers and career-driven professionals. The initiative aim is two-fold: 1.) make youth self-reflect on and self-analyze their decision-making process regarding personal, family, and community affairs; and 2.) provide them with essential support to create and sustain a positive lifestyle.
One Step Ahead is a career-focused and financial literacy-based initiative for justice-impacted individuals (16 & older), in collaboration with local service providers specialized in these areas of expertise. It will offer comprehensive digital training services alongside traditional workshops, catering to career-ready individuals seeking employment preparation and money management guidance. Participants will have access to online modules, webinars, and interactive tools, augmenting their learning experience. By integrating digital training services, this initiative aims to bridge the gap in financial literacy awareness and workforce readiness skills in underserved communities. With a focus on both digital and traditional learning methods, participants will be equipped to navigate the evolving demands of the job market and effectively manage their finances, empowering them to seize opportunities and thrive in the workforce of tomorrow.
